EVERY body deserves a little "ME TIME"

Sweedish Massage

Welcome to Me Time Massage and Bodywork Studio! Let's talk a bit about this wonderful method for relieving stress and restoring balance to our over-stressed lifestyles.

Massage therapy is one of the oldest of the healing arts, with references in medical texts nearly 4,000 years old. The ancient Hindus, Persians, and Egyptians applied forms of massage for many ailments. Chinese records dating back 3,000 years document its use; and Hippocrates wrote papers recommending the use of rubbing and friction for relieving joint and circulatory problems.

Massage therapy is more than relaxing me-time. Studies continue to prove the physical and emotional benefits of even a single massage therapy session.

Professionals who provide therapeutic massage are called Massage Therapists. It's important to make sure your therapist has had proper training and education. Ask to see Certifications and Licenses before any massage therapy. Don't allow untrained hands to cheat you out of the amazing benefits that a professional, Licensed Massage Therapist can offer.

Massage therapy is basically the manual manipulation of soft body tissues (muscle, connective tissue, tendons and ligaments) to enhance a person's health and well-being.

There are more than 250 variations of massage, bodywork, and somatic therapies, and many practitioners utilize multiple techniques. The application of these techniques may include, but is not limited to, stroking, kneading, tapping, compression, vibration, rocking, friction, and pressure to the muscular structure or soft tissues of the human body. This may also include non-forceful passive or active movement and/or application of techniques intended to affect the energetic systems of the body. The use of oils, lotions, and powders may also be included to reduce friction on the skin. Some of the more widely practiced types of massage therapy methods, called modalities, include:

Swedish Massage
  • Increase circulation
  • Promote relaxation
  • Alleviate pain and stiffness

Swedish Massage is probably the most popular type of massage, aimed for those who wish to relieve tired, achy muscles and relieve stress. It utilizes long strokes of varying pressure ranging from light to heavy, depending on the personal preference of the patient.

Deep Tissue Massage
  • Reduce pain and stiffness
  • Relieve muscular spasms
  • Increase mobility and range of motion

Deep Tissue Massage is a deeper, more intense massage than Swedish Massage, using smooth, firm pressure strokes designed to reach deeper into muscle tissue. Deep Tissue Massage is often applied to relieve severe tension and consistent muscle pain and soreness.

Trigger Point
  • Reduce muscle spasms
  • Decrease muscle stiffness
  • Relieve pain - even migrains

Trigger points are sore, painful spots referred to as "knots" in the muscle tissue that actually "trigger" pain that can be felt in other parts of the body. Trigger Point Massage provides benefits after just one session by concentrating finger pressure on each trigger point, thus breaking the cycle of muscle spasms and corresponding pain.

Aromatherapy
  • Calm the nerves
  • Promote emotional health
  • Energize the body

Aromatherapy adds to the effectiveness of Massage by conditioning the senses to maximize the relaxing nature of the treatment. The clear, sharp aroma of Eucalyptus clears sinuses and relieves congestion, fatigue, and joint and muscle aches and pains. Lavender relieves anxiety and stress, promoting a general sense of well being. Peppermint provides mental alertness when you're feeling too busy, tired, or overworked. Choose your favorite, or talk to your Therapist and allow him to create a mixture exactly right for you!

Bobby Wright, Licensed Massage Therapist

A full-body massage addresses much more than just aching back and shoulder muscles. Painful arches are often the result of too-tight muscles in the calf, thigh, buttocks, or even lower back. Too many hours in front of a TV or computer screen can leave face and neck muscles tight and tired. At Me Time Massage and Bodywork Studio, we treat the WHOLE body!
