Massage is the intentional and systematic manipulation of soft tissues of the body to enhance health and healing. The most common types of massage called "modalities" are listed below.
Swedish Massage is a circulatory style of massage. Its broad sweeping strokes promote increased blood/fluid flow through muscle tissues, which facilitates metabolic efficiency.
Integrated Deep Tissue Massage focuses on soft tissue treatment that combines several modalities which emphasize different aspects and qualities of the myofascial system — the system of fibrous tissue that surrounds and connects muscles, organs, and soft tissues of the body.
Neuromuscular Massage is a specialized form of deep dissue work that treats muscular dysfunctions known as "trigger points" — tiny areas of irritation that form into nodes within strained bands of muscle tissue.
This specific work consists of hot stones combined with efflaurage strokes for a soothing, relaxing feeling.
In a Foot Scrub Massage, sugar and/or salt scrubs are used to exfoliate and soften the skin through efflaurage strokes, ROM, stretching, and stripping techniques.
A Sports Massage includes tapotement techniques, ROM, and stretching to stimulate the body to be prepared for an active and physically demanding event.
